HOW TO CALCULATE THE CHARGEABLE WEIGHT
When calculating your cost for an airfreight shipment, the weight to volume ratio must be deter- mined. The airline industry standard weight/volume for international shipments is a ratio of 1:6.
CHARGEABLE WEIGHT - The chargeable weight is the greater of the actual gross weight or volume weight.
VOLUME WEIGHT - The cubic volume of a consignment is established by applying the greatest length, the greatest width and the greatest height of the consignment or its packages. Consignment dimensions which result in an average of more than 6000 cubic centimeters/366 cubic inches per kilogram (166 cubic inches per pound), shall be charged on volume basis.
CENTIMETERS-KILOGRAMS -If the dimensions of the consignment is in centimeters, the chargeable weight is established by dividing the total cubic volume (L x W x H in centimeters) by 6000. The result is the total volume weight in kilos.
INCHES-KILOGRAMS - If the dimensions of the consignment is in inches, the chargeable weight is established by dividing the total cubic volume (L x W x H in inches) by 366. The result is the volume weight in kilos.
INCHES-POUNDS -If the dimensions of the consignment is in inches, the chargeable weight in pounds is obtained by dividing the total cubic volume (L x W x H in inches) by 194 for DOMESTIC shipments and 166 for INTERNATIONAL shipments. The result is the volume weight in pounds.
POUNDS-KILOS - To convert pounds to kilos divide the total weight in pounds by 2.2046.
